Step 01 · Cleanse

Hair Stronger Than Ever. The weekly reset.

★ As Featured in People Magazine · Aug 2025

One wash. Sweat, chlorine, sunscreen, product, hard water, scalp buildup under protective styles — gone.

Pure Detox Clarifying Shampoo is the deep clean that resets your hair to factory settings. Built for the moments when buildup won't budge — daily product accumulation, hard-water minerals, chlorine and saltwater, scalp residue under braids and locs, the takedown-day reset. Wash. Rinse. Reset.

For the ones who show up — and want their hair to show up too.

WHAT IT DOES

Strips weekly buildup. Product residue, sweat, sebum, sunscreen, chlorine, salt water — dissolved and rinsed.

Lifts hard-water minerals. A chelator binds and removes the calcium, magnesium, and iron deposits that dull color and stiffen strands over time.

Clarifies scalp under protective styles. Applied with a scalp brush during braids, twists, or locs, Pure Detox lifts the buildup that accumulates at the scalp during long-wear styles — without disturbing the style.

Preps for treatment. Cleared cuticles let peptide treatments, masks, and chemical services do their actual work. No clean slate, no result.

Resets the canvas. Hair feels lighter, looks brighter, holds style longer. The reset every routine needs.

WHY A CLARIFIER MATTERS

Daily shampoo cleans the surface. Buildup happens deeper.

Hard water leaves mineral deposits that bind to the cuticle. Sunscreen, chlorine, and saltwater coat the fiber. Styling products layer week after week. Scalp residue accumulates under any long-wear style — protective installs, sew-ins, locs — where regular wash access is limited. Your hair stops absorbing moisture. Color goes flat. Treatments stop penetrating.

A clarifier is the periodic deep clean that resets the cuticle so everything else — your daily wash, your conditioner, your mask, your peptide treatment — actually works. Pure Detox uses a focused surfactant system paired with Disodium EDTA, a chelator that binds and lifts the mineral buildup daily washing leaves behind.

The chelator is the difference. Sodium Laureth Sulfate alone is a strong shampoo. Sodium Laureth Sulfate + Disodium EDTA is a true clarifier — one that removes mineral deposits a regular shampoo cannot. In hard-water markets, this is the difference between a hair routine that works and a hair routine that's silently being undermined.

AS FEATURED IN PEOPLE MAGAZINE

People Magazine · August 4, 2025
"Bring On the Heat" summer hair essentials roundup, by Jackie Fields with Hedy Phillips and Brittany Talarico.

"A good clarifying shampoo is a must."
— Hairstylist Vienna Scott-Vince, recommending Pure Detox in People

Scott-Vince called clarifying a non-negotiable defense against the season's accumulated buildup — sweat, saltwater, chlorine, sunscreen — and advised pairing the wash with a hydrating, pH-balancing follow-up. Pure Detox was featured as the "Buildup Buster" pick.

YOUR PLACE IN THE pH CYCLE

Pure Detox is Step 01 — Reset in Oli G's engineered pH cycle. The cuticle-open step that makes everything else work.

pH 7.0–7.9 — slightly alkaline. This is deliberate. The slightly raised pH lifts cuticle scales so the chelating Disodium EDTA can reach mineral deposits and embedded product buildup that surfactants alone cannot remove. A pH-matched daily shampoo cleans the surface; an alkaline clarifier reaches deeper.

This is the formula role of a true clarifier — and the reason Pure Detox is paired in the system with the acid-balanced products that follow. After Pure Detox lifts the cuticle to clarify, the rest of the cycle resets and seals it back down:

  • Step 02 (pH 5.0–5.5): Total Refresh Shampoo brings the cuticle back to hair's natural pH.
  • Step 03 (pH 3.5–4.5): Total Refresh Conditioner actively closes the cuticle.
  • Step 04 (pH 7.0–8.0): Atomic Leave-In re-opens slightly to deposit peptides.
  • Step 05 (pH 3.5–4.6): Chemical Addiction closes the cuticle around the peptides.

WHAT'S IN IT

The actives we built around:

Ingredient Why it's there
Sodium Laureth Sulfate The deep-cleansing surfactant that clarifying actually needs. Dissolves built-up product, sebum, sweat, sunscreen, and styling residue.
Cocamidopropyl Betaine The cushion. Secondary surfactant that softens the wash and reduces the sharpness of a deep clean.
Disodium EDTA The chelator — and the active that distinguishes a clarifier from a strong shampoo. Binds and lifts hard-water mineral deposits (calcium, magnesium, iron) that dull color and stiffen hair over time.

Never: parabens, phthalates, mineral oil, drying alcohols, or anything we wouldn't put on our own hair.

Full ingredient list (INCI)

Aqua (Water), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamide MEA, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Parfum (Fragrance), Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Chloride, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Benzyl Salicylate, Hexyl Cinnamal, Limonene, Linalool, Benzyl Benzoate, Hydroxycitronellal.

HOW TO USE
  1. Saturate. Wet hair thoroughly with warm (not hot) water.
  2. Lather. A coin-sized amount for short or medium hair, half-dollar for long. Work into the scalp and roots first — that's where buildup lives.
  3. Massage. Two minutes minimum. Clarifying needs contact time.
  4. Rinse. Thoroughly. Then assess — if hair still feels coated, repeat.
  5. Follow with treatment. Cleared cuticles are most receptive — pair with AquaLush Peptide Fiber Mask for the full reset-and-restore.

Cadence by hair — Weekly clarifying is the default cadence for most. For weekly-wash routines (the type 4 baseline by design), Pure Detox enters the rotation on takedown days, between protective styles, or whenever scalp buildup compounds. For daily-style routines, weekly clarify holds; twice a week for swimmers, daily-stylers, or hard-water households. Before any color or chemical service.

UNDER PROTECTIVE STYLES

For braids, twists, locs, sew-ins, and wigs, the scalp keeps producing oil and accumulating product residue while the style stays in. Pure Detox plus a scalp brush is the highest-leverage in-style scalp care.

During the install (braids, twists, locs):

  1. Dilute a small amount of Pure Detox in a spray-bottle or applicator bottle (1:3 with water).
  2. Apply directly to the scalp with the bottle tip or a scalp brush, working in sections.
  3. Massage with the brush for 60 seconds.
  4. Rinse thoroughly — careful not to over-saturate the style itself.
  5. Air-dry the scalp before the next styling step.

At takedown: Full-strength Pure Detox is the reset. Two consecutive lathers — the first to lift the surface, the second to deep-clean — followed by AquaLush as the conditioning step is the standard takedown protocol. See the takedown recovery routine for the full sequence.

THE PAIR

We made two shampoos. Hair needs both kinds of clean.

Pure Detox — Weekly. The deep reset. Alkaline pH (7.0–7.9). Use before color, after the beach, when product won't rinse out, before a takedown, or any time hair feels heavy.

Total Refresh pH Balancing Shampoo — Daily. The gentle maintenance wash. Calibrated to your hair's natural pH (5.0–5.5) for everyday use.

Use both. Pure Detox resets. Total Refresh maintains. Different jobs. Different pH points. One ritual that compounds.

BUILT FOR EVERY HAIR

The clarifying chemistry is the same; the timing shifts by hair type and routine.

Type 1 and 2 (straight to wavy): Weekly use, the standard cadence. Twice a week for swimmers, heavy stylers, or hard-water households.

Type 3 (curly): Weekly or every other week. Before color, after the beach, when curl definition flattens from product buildup.

Type 4 (coily) and high-porosity: Weekly clarifying is the default cadence on a weekly-wash routine — it's the every-wash starting step, not the exceptional one. Plus the use cases that matter most: pre-takedown reset before unraveling a protective install, in-style scalp care during long-wear installs, post-takedown deep-clean before the recovery routine.

Color, balayage, keratin, relaxer — all safe at weekly frequency. Pure Detox was formulated alongside stylists working across every hair type and every chemical service.

If your hair feels heavy by Wednesday, won't hold a style, or your last color appointment didn't pop the way it should — buildup is the answer. Pure Detox is the fix.

HAIR HEALTH, THE MODERN WAY

We don't believe wellness stops at the body. The way you train, eat, hydrate, recover — your hair deserves the same intentionality. Pure Detox is the weekly ritual that gives your hair its reset day — after the long week, the pool day, the trip, the styling marathon, the takedown.

Rooted in Miami. Bright, bold, multicultural, unfiltered. Built for momentum.

FAQ

How often should I use it?
Depends on your wash routine. For daily-wash routines: once a week is the default; twice a week for swimmers, daily-stylers, or hard-water households. For weekly-wash routines (the type 4 baseline by design): weekly clarifying is the standard wash-day clarifying step. Before any color, chemical service, or protective-style takedown.

Can I use it every day?
No. Pure Detox is intentional — it's the periodic deep clean, not the daily wash. For every day, use Total Refresh pH Balancing Shampoo.

Can I use Pure Detox during a protective install (braids, twists, locs)?
Yes — diluted, with a scalp brush, applied directly to the scalp. See the UNDER PROTECTIVE STYLES section above for the full method. Don't use it full-strength on installed hair (it can disturb the style); save the full clarifying strength for the takedown.

What about wigs and sew-ins?
Pure Detox is for the natural hair underneath during scalp-care sessions, not for the wig or sew-in itself. Lift the wig or part the sewn-in tracks, apply diluted Pure Detox at the scalp with a scalp brush, rinse, dry, then reinstall or restyle.

Color, keratin, relaxed — safe?
At weekly frequency, yes. Don't use it the day of a fresh color appointment — you want a clean canvas, not a stripped one. Otherwise, weekly use is salon-vetted.

Will it dry my hair out?
Not when used as directed. The deep clean is intentional — that's the point — but it's followed in the system by treatment (AquaLush) and conditioning (Total Refresh Conditioner, or AquaLush as the conditioning step on weekly-wash routines). Pure Detox alone, on cadence, paired with the right follow-up: the right balance.

Made where?
